Helen Lonetree, age 82 of Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin walked on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her loving, extended family by her side.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Conway-Picha Funeral Home in Lyndon Station, Wisconsin. Burial will be at Spring Grove Cemetery in Wisconsin Dells.
Helen was born October 2, 1932 in LaCrosse, Wisconsin the daughter of Floyd and Sarah (Snake) WhiteEagle. She was a very prominent HoChunk woman and her knowledge and fluency of the language and traditions were very important to her. Also special to her was her devotion with the Native American church. She was a very sociable person and enjoyed visiting with her many friends. Helen also was a master black ash basket maker of which her creations can be found worldwide.
Helen is survived by her sons, Bryon (Eunice) of Middleton, Wisconsin and Dale (Cynthia) of Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin; a brother, Morgan; sisters, Dale WhiteEagle and June WhiteThunder; 6 granddaughters and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Garland, Sanford, Dan, Orville and Arthur; and sisters, Wanda, Sarah and Owenita.
