Helen L. Gassett
Helen L. (Kuelling) Gassett gently passed away at age 97 in her home on Friday, March 10, 2017.
Born on May 27, 1919 in Madison WI, the daughter of Herbert J. & Ethel (Fenton) Kuelling, Helen grew up in Madison graduating from Madison West High School. Helen went on to graduate with a BS degree from UW-Madison in 1941 and taught a variety of high school subjects in area schools.
While teaching in Howard’s Grove, WI she met fellow educator Archie H. Gassett. They married in Madison on December 1, 1945 when Arch returned from serving in the Army Air Force. He passed away July 23, 1995.
Moving to Fort Atkinson in 1951, Helen was a member of a Book Club for over 50 years, was a founding member of the Fort Atkinson Community Theater, played in a Bridge Club and volunteered at the Fort Memorial Hospital, the Dwight Foster Public Library, the Food Pantry, taught in a Literacy Program and delivered Meals on Wheels.
Helen was an avid reader and also gathered a collection of unique ABC books. She was an accomplished sewer, quilter, cross-stitcher and crocheter. She enjoyed playing cards and games, especially word related games. She crafted beautiful stained glass art and original Christmas cards. She tended her colorful flower gardens. Most of all she created a wonderfully happy home for her family.
Helen was also preceded in death by her parents, brother Herbert Kuelling and sister Ethel Evans.
Helen is survived by two daughters Cynthia (Marcus) Sullivan of Madison and Rochelle (John) Greene of Fort Atkinson; grandson, Jesse Griffin of Fargo, ND and granddaughter, Sherry Griffin (husband Dustin Williams) of Brooklyn, NY; great grandson Evan Griffin of Fargo, ND and nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date.

The Dunlap Memorial Home in Fort Atkinson is assisting the family.
