Hazel E. Woods
MADISON-Hazel E. Woods, age 100, of Madison, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital. She was born on Aug. 14, 1912, in Madison, the daughter of Harvey and Clara (Johnson) Raymond. Hazel married Harold L. Woods on July 8, 1940, in Madison. She attended Frank Allis Elementary School and Madison East High School. After high school, Hazel set her sights on becoming a teacher and attended Columbia Teachers College, as well as UW-Whitewater and UW-LaCrosse. After receiving her teaching degree, Hazel became the teacher at Hope School and then Meier School. After her children were born she stayed at home to raise her children. Hazel was a member of Lake Edge United Church of Christ, serving on numerous committees belonged to bible study groups. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, enjoyed watching Packer and Badger Football, traveling to northern Wisconsin, and growing roses.
Hazel is survived by her children, Ronald (Roberta) Woods of Janesville and Marilyn Hanold of Madison; four grandchildren, Brian Lee, Dan (Kim), Lee, Jeremy (Lynda) Hanold, and Josh (Michelle) Hanold; 12 great-grandchildren, Zach, Chase, Kyle, Kelsey, Damon, Devin, Kayla, Gavin, Kyah, Taelyn, Nicholas, and Nathan; and numerous other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold, in 1992; and siblings, Pearl, Reuben, and Milo.
Memorial services will be held at LAKE EDGE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST, 4200 Buckeye Road, Madison, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, with the Rev. Lex Liberatore presiding. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service on Friday. Memorials may be made to Lake Edge United Church of Christ.
