Hauler fire with cattle on board shuts down stretch of Hwy. 151

A vehicle fire closed a stretch of Highway 151 near Beaver Dam Wednesday afternoon, state traffic officials said.

Dodge County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Scott Smith said deputies responded to the report at 12:21 p.m. of a semi on fire in the northbound lane of Highway 151.

The driver was out of the vehicle, and the cattle hauler with cattle on board was on fire.

Highway 151 north at Redwood Road was shut down, and south at County Road C was also shut down as first responders worked to herd the loose cattle into alternate transportation.

Smith said a veterinarian was headed to the scene to evaluate the cattle. The condition of the animals was not immediately clear Wednesday afternoon.

The driver didn’t report an injury, Smith said.

The road was reopened around 6 p.m.
