Harry J. Nickel
Harry J. Nickel, age 93, of Janesville, died peacefully on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at home.
He was born in Johnstown Center on Feb. 3, 1924, the son of Andrew and Lottie Belle (Chesmore) Nickel. He served in the National Guard in 1939, and then from 1941 to 1944, he served in U.S. Army during WWII. Harry married Betty Gehri in LaValle, WI on April 17, 1945, and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2012. He retired from General Motors after 32 ½ years in March of 1980. He was Captain of the auxiliary police/civil defense of Rock County, and President of the Rock County Rifle and Pistol Club. Harry spent many years traveling and camping with his family.
He is survived by his 3 children: Linda Jensen of Texas, Larry Nickel and Dale Nickel both of Janesville; 7 grandchildren: Dana Jensen, DeAnn (Brian) Boyne, Andrew (Carrie Boureau) Nickel, Brooke (Scotty Boyne) Nickel, David (Cassi) Nickel, Phillip (Mariah) Nickel and Valerie Myher Green; 19 great grandchildren; brother, Kenneth Nickel; many other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 2 brothers, Norman and Robert; sister, Florence; and daughter-in-law, Ruth Fleck.
Full Military Honors will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017 at 2:30PM. A Visitation will be held on Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m. at MILTON LAWNS MEMORIAL PARK CHAPEL . Interment will be in Milton Lawns. SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY is assisting the family.
