Greenbush Bakery opens in new location

Students aren’t the only ones moving this week on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus. A Madison institution, the Greenbush Bakery has moved as well and opened for business Tuesday at its new location.

After more than 20 years at 1305 Regent St., Greenbush Bakery moved one block down the road to 1402 Regent St., in the storefront of the Regent Apartments across from the Sconnie Bar. The location was previously a CoffeeBytes and a Subway.

The move comes after the bakery’s lease was set to end at the end of August. While the bakery originally planned to renegotiate the lease for an extension, the lease was offered to neighboring Rocky Rococo’s.

Marv and Barbara Miller founded Greenbush Bakery in 1996. Their grandson, Taylor Carlson is now the general manager. Carlson says staying in the Greenbush neighborhood was a priority when looking for a new space.

The new location allows the bakery to have indoor seating options and more space to make the donuts. Greenbush Bakery is the only certified Kosher bakery in Madison and one of the few in Wisconsin.

In 2017, Greenbush Bakery opened a second location on High Crossing Boulevard on Madison’s east side.
