Great Lakes celebrates anniversary by giving back

The Madison Community Foundation is not the only organization celebrating an anniversary this year by giving rather than receiving.

It’s Great Lakes Higher Education Corporation’s 50th anniversary and the student loan servicing business is celebrating the occasion by giving big gifts to two of Dane County’s best non-profits.

Thursday, Great Lakes presented checks for $50,000 each to the River Food Pantry and Operation Fresh Start.

First of all, we can attest to the good work being down by both Fresh Start and the River. Both have changed lives. But what a classy move by Great Lakes Higher Ed to give back to their home community — $50,000 is real money that will have a big impact on two deserving non-profits.

Great Lakes does a lot of this kind of thing and it’s a wonderful corporate citizen. So happy anniversary Great Lakes, and thanks for sharing.
