Grace Dermody

Grace Dermody

Annandale. Grace O’Malley Dermody, our spectacular Irish Mother, passed away in Madison Wisconsin on October 12th, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her very special friend Bill Glaser.

Grace was born in Newark, NJ in the Spring of 1928, the youngest child of Charles and Regina O’Malley. Other than short spurts in California, Hawaii, Cartagena, Columbia and Madison WI, her life was spent in her beloved state of New Jersey. She attended the College of St. Elizabeth, where she studied English and made lifelong friends. She met Bill Dermody at the Jersey shore one fun summer and married him in April, 1952. They raised their children and entertained their friends and families in the Westfield area.
They moved to Wisconsin in the late ‘90s; but New Jersey was truly home and Bill and Grace moved back to NJ, settling in Annandale. When Bill passed away in 2005, Grace found comfort and strength in her friends and parish, Immaculate Conception Church.

Grace was very active in the New Jersey Right to Life organization and was the founder of the New Jersey chapter of Feminists for Life. She was an avid reader and an equally avid debater; her faith and convictions were solid. She was a loving, honest, and kind person who was always able to find goodness in any person she met.

Grace is survived by her three children Bill (Sarah) Dermody, Mike Dermody, and Mary (Clint) Jorgensen, eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews whom she adored. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, an infant daughter, her husband Bill, and her lovely daughter-in-law Jane Dermody.

Services will be held Friday October 26th at 11 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, in Annandale, Hunterdon County. Prior to the mass, a group rosary will be said at 10 AM. Priests and Deacons, long-time friends of the family, will be concelebrants at the holy service. Grace will be interred after Mass in the Parish Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to Life Choice, Inc., 411S Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 or to Leukemia Research Foundation 3520 Lake Avenue, Suite #202, Wilmette, IL 60091.

A few years and a million memories make up one’s life. Those of us who knew Grace hold dear our memories and wish her everlasting peace with God.
