Gov’s office rings bell to honor march
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s office has rung an online bell as part of an international ceremony to honor the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s famous “I Have a Dream” speech.
King delivered the speech in Washington, D.C., on Aug. 28, 1963. Commemorations featuring bell-ringing were set to begin across the United States as well as in a number of other countries at 3 p.m. local time or at 3 p.m. EDT.
Walker issued a proclamation this month designating Wednesday as Let Freedom Ring Day in Wisconsin. Walker’s spokesman says the governor will be participating in a motorcycle ride to celebrate Harley-Davidson’s 110th anniversary on Wednesday afternoon but his office rang a virtual bell on the commemoration’s website.
