Governor Walker removes restrictions on propane transporters
MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker issued an executive order exempting drivers of commercial motor vehicles transporting propane from federal and Wisconsin hours-of-service requirements.
The order is a response to propane shortages and increased wait times to obtain it. The shortages are due to the closure for of the Rockford, Illinois, propane terminal for maintenance.
The exemption applies to all highways in Wisconsin, including the national system of interstate and defense highways.
“More than 250,000 Wisconsinites depend on propane as both an energy supply and a heat source in cold weather,” Walker said. “By exempting propane transporters from hours-of-service requirements, we’ll decrease wait times and backups and ensure people receive this critical resource safely and efficiently.”
