Gov. Walker works toward new venture capital bill
Legislation would be aimed at creating jobs
MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker has asked the state commerce agency to assemble a coalition to develop venture capital legislation aimed at creating more jobs in Wisconsin.
Walker proposed similar legislation last year, but it died amid disagreement among politicians and special interest groups over how the program would work. Walker hopes that putting together a coalition of groups ahead of time will lead to a unified voice that will make it easier to develop a new program.
A Walker spokesman told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel the governor has asked the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. to pull together a coalition.
Agency spokesman Tom Thieding said it’s too early to discuss all the ideas that have been raised, but WEDC is excited about the opportunity to bring the coalition together.
