Also on Walter Camp watch list
MADISON — Wisconsin Badgers running back Melvin Gordon is one of 10 semifinalists for the Doak Walker award as the nation’s top running back.
Gordon’s NCAA single game record 408 rushing yards against Nebraska made him the leading rusher in the country with 1,909 yards.
Gordon is averaging 8.56 yards a carry which would break Mike Rozier’s single season record of 7.81 yards per carry.
It’s the fifth straight season a Badger running back has been a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award and the 10th time in the last 17 years.
In addition to Gordon (2013, 14), Ron Dayne (1998, 99), Anthony Davis (2001), Brian Calhoun (2005), P.J. Hill (2006), John Clay (2010) and Montee Ball (2011, 12) were all Doak Walker Semifinalists.
Gordon was also named to the “Players to Watch” list for the Walter Camp Player of the Year award Wednesday.
