GoFundMe created for family of woman killed in Sun Prairie crash
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — A GoFundMe page has been created for the family of the woman who was struck during a fatal crash Monday afternoon in Sun Prairie.
The woman, who has been identified as Julie Nelson, died from injuries suffered in the crash. Nelson’s wife, a Madison police officer, was also injured in the crash.
“You would not find 2 more caring hearts, and as we watched them marry in September of 2019, we knew we were seeing what true love looks like,” the GoFundMe page reads.
The fundraiser had a goal of $5,000, but had already almost tripled it by Thursday night.
“The generosity of so many has been amazing,” an update on Thursday reads. “Thank you.”
Police said they arrested the driver of the one of the vehicles in the crash, 32-year-old James Blackstone, for misdemeanor bail jumping. A Madison Police Department spokesman said an off-duty officer was involved in the crash on Tuesday, but was unable to comment on the officer’s condition at that time. Police said the crash is still under investigation.
