GM property put up for sale for $7.4 million
JANESVILLE, Wis. — The property where the former General Motors plant stands in Janesville has been listed for sale.
Coldwell Banker Commercial McGuire Mears & Associates has the 250-acre property at 1000 General Motors Drive and 1200 South Jackson St. listed for sale for $7,445,100.
The adjacent lot at 544 Kellogg Ave. is also listed for sale for $7,330,050.
Commercial Development Company, a St. Louis-based redevelopment company, announced in December that most of the 4.8 million-square-foot facility would be demolished.
McGuire Mears & Associates managing broker Bill Mears told News 3 the listings have been posted since Feb. 14, but the commercial real estate company is not actively marketing the properties yet.
Mears said the realty firm has had businesses express interest in the property, mostly from companies that would use the nearby rail lines.
CDC officials said the site would be ready for demolition by April and ready for development by the spring of 2019.
The Janesville Assembly Plant opened in 1919 and was in use until GM placed the facility on standby in April 2009. The company officially closed the plant in November 2015.
