Girl Scouts hosts event to encourage the pursuit of STEM careers

Girl Scouts grades 6-8 will get a chance to work with Mars Odyssey scientist Dr. Rebecca Williams to build their own mock Mars Lander.

The event is called EngineerGirl: Mission to Mars, it promises to be an exciting STEM program for Girl Scouts.

In addition to building a Mars Lander with Dr. Williams, the Girl Scouts will also get to build rockets with the Madison West Rocketry Club later in the day.

Girl Scouts launched a national STEM Pledge with an initiative to put 2.5 million girls on track to a STEM career by 2025. EngineerGirl is a step towards achieving that goal.

The event is taking place Sunday, Nov. 19 from 11 am. to 3 p.m. at the UW Space Place located at 2300 S Park St.

Girls can sign up to join at any time.
