GHC-SCW hosts first pediatric COVID vaccine clinic

MADISON, Wis. — A local healthcare provider hosted its first pediatric COVID-19 vaccination clinic for 5- to 11-year-olds Saturday.

The vaccinations were available for the young children through Group Health Cooperative of South Central Wisconsin’s MyChart portal, or by calling the vaccine schedule line at 608-662-4914.

GHC-SCW will host first-shot pediatric appointments again on Saturdays, Nov. 13 and Nov. 20. at its DeForest and Madison clinics. Organizers said more than 500 children were vaccinated Saturday.

The clinics are decorated with a superhero theme, including balloons, child-sized capes and stickers, all to help ease any apprehension children may have.

“So that it’s not so scary when our kids walk in and they see the superhero theme and they see everybody dressed up and excited wearing capes,” said Clinical Operations Director Tiffany Pipp. “We’re really trying to figure out how we can do it well and really minimize that fear for our kids.”

GHC-SCW is also scheduling Pfizer and Moderna vaccine booster appointments for eligible members ages 18 and up.
