Geraldine “Jeri” Ruth Schloemer
Geraldine “Jeri” Ruth Schloemer (Ambrose), 95, danced through life and passed away Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2014, at Huntington Place.
She was the daughter of Alma (Dollase) and Adolph Ambrose, Jeri Schloemer was a lifelong Janesville resident. A cherished mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother, aunt and dear friend, Jeri has danced into the afterlife.
Jeri graduated from Janesville High School in 1938 and married Walter Schloemer on Jan. 13, 1940. They were married sixty-one years and 2 daughters, Bridget (Ace) Guenther and Suzanne (Steve) Figi completed their family.
Jeri is remembered warmly as an aspiring artist, avid gardener, and creator of custom greeting cards for any and every occasion. She enjoyed all sports, especially swimming the Rock River, ice-skating at Traxler Park, and golfing with friends at Blackhawk. Jeri was a passionate Packer and Badger fan and loved to dance. She learned tap, jazz, and soft shoe as a young girl and truly danced through life, teaching everyone she met the two-step, and at age 94, even her caregivers. Jeri’s grandchildren remember her for a lifetime of very special Christmases, catching lightning bugs in summer, and a year-round supply of no alcohol kiddie cocktails. Grandma Jeri’s love was boundless.
Jeri was a charter member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church and worked at Sears and Woolworth’s. She enjoyed volunteering at Mercy Hospital, Castaways and serving elementary school breakfasts. She appreciated her Milton Senior Living friends and caregivers, Agrace HospiceCare, and UW-Whitewater student visits.
Jeri is survived by her daughter, Suzanne Figi; Su’s husband, Steve; 6 grandchildren: Walt (Peg) Guenther, Gretchen (Greg) Clements, Ace (Alice) Guenther, Joe (Reba) Guenther and Stephanie and Matthew Figi; 14 great-grandchildren: Curtis, Heather, Katrina, Robert, Alyssa, Kayla, Addisyn, Hayden and Raelyn Guenther, Samantha and Amanda Clements, Maxwell, Charlotte and Chase Figi and 2 great-great grandchildren.
In her final years, Jeri treasured frequent visits from nephew, Don Ambrose. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Wally; daughter, Bridget; son-in-law, Ace Guenther; parents, Alma and Adolph Ambrose; sisters, Dorothy Bergman and Edna Gould; and brothers, Bud, Russell and Hilmer Ambrose.
