Gerald R. Dunn
Fitchburg-Gerald “Jerry” R. Dunn, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 22, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison, surrounded by his family.
Gerald was born on November 30, 1919, in Westport, the son of John and Katherine (Maher) Dunn. In 1921 Gerald’s parents moved the family to the Fitchburg farm where Gerald would live for the next 90 years. Gerald attended Camp Badger Grade School and graduated from Edgewood High School in 1937. He married Ruth Kerwin on May 3, 1969.
Gerald thrived at his vocation of farming. Each morning he was eager to get up and get to the work of the day. Whether it was milking cows, raising pigs, or planting straight rows of corn, he did it with excellence. He worked hard, managed well, and as a businessman gave attention to detail and quality. He was generous to his family wanting them to succeed and do well. Two of his brothers, Vincent and Vernon, were farmers and lifelong partners in sharing labor, equipment and support to one another. He was an avid Packer fan. His faith was quietly lived out in all he did and said.
Survivors include Gerald’s wife, Ruth, sister, Irene (Ed) Kubes, and brother, Vernon (Bernice) Dunn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, their children and grandchildren.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Vincent and Bro. William C.S.C., sister Mary O’Brien, brother-in-law Leo O’Brien and sister-in-law Mary Dunn.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Monday, August 27, 2012, at noon with Msgr. Kenneth Fiedler presiding.
