George D. Waltz
MADISON-George D. Waltz passed away on Friday, October 13, 2017, with his family at his side.
He was born December 18, 1921, in Peru, Nebraska, and raised on the family farm. Following graduation from Auburn High School in 1939 he attended business college in Grand Island, Nebraska. In 1940 he moved to Washington, DC to accept a job in the War Department. George enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and served on the USS Bland in the Pacific theater until 1946.
Following his military service, George studied architecture at Yale University, graduating in 1950. He was practicing architecture in Racine, Wisconsin when he met and married Lauri Hewstone. They welcomed daughters Ann in 1956 and Barbara in 1958. In 1957, George and family moved to Milwaukee where he co-founded the firm Miller, Waltz Architects. The firm grew rapidly and was at one time the largest architectural firm in Wisconsin. George left the firm in 1980, and retired from KM Development in 1991.
George and Lauri moved to the Madison area in 2002 and Lauri passed away in 2004.
George is survived by his daughter, Ann Waltz, and granddaughter Renee Martinez, of Kalispell, Montana, and daughter Barbara Weber, son-in-law Steve Weber and grandchildren Matt and Ali Weber, of Middleton, Wisconsin.
There will be no service.
