George A. Wallenkamp
George A. Wallenkamp, age 83, of Highland, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at Bloomfield Healthcare & Rehab following a long illness. George was born on January 28, 1934 in Highland to Henry and Martha (Williams) Wallenkamp. He was a 1951graduate of the Highland High School and then served in the U.S. Navy. George taught History at the Highland High School for many years. He then worked at U.W. Madison and retired from Bloomfield Manor after 28 years. He was a member of Ss. Anthony & Philip Parish; the Knights of Columbus; the White Eagles; Robert Kail American Legion Post #422; the Highland Area Historical Society and had served as a Highland Village Trustee for 13 years. George enjoyed garage sales, playing cards, the White Eagles, fishing and anything to do with history.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his longtime companion, Vicki Borne on June 2, 2012 and Vicki’s brother Brian Borne.
George is survived by cousins; Vicki’s family, Jeff (Kris) Borne; Kris Halverson; Mike (Becky) Borne; Randy (Lisa) Borne, Steve Borne, Jill (Joe) Bartman; Brian’s wife, Beth Borne; Tracy (John) Sanders; Bill (Angie) Borne; Mary (John) Crook and Allison (Collin) Woodward, all of Dodgeville as well as many friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Friday, January 12, 2018 at Ss. Anthony & Philip Catholic Church in Highland. Burial will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery with Full Military Honors. Friends may call at the church on Friday after 10:00 A.M. Memorials to the Highland Area Historical Society would be greatly appreciated.
