Gayle Olive Hickcox
Gayle Olive Hickcox, age 88, of Dodgeville, died unexpectedly on Friday, November 24, 2017 at her daughter’s home in Maple Lake, MN. Gayle was born on April 23, 1929 in Dodgeville Township to Russell and Julia (Williams) Thomas. She was a 1946 graduate of Ridgeway High School. Gayle married Derald Hickcox of Arena on August 7, 1948. They both graduated from Grand Rapids School of Bible and Music in June of 1951. Gayle spent 26 years working with her husband to start, build and pastor the Lake Tomahawk Bible Church. T
he next six years co-managing two youth camps with her husband as well as being head of food services. Gayle spent several years in the child care business and 15 years working for non-profit organizations in food service and tutoring boys. She worked with her husband in pastoring the Faith Fellowship Church in Dodgeville, WI for six and a half years. Gayle enjoyed writing letters to family and friends and at one time had a Christmas Card list of over 700 people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Douglas; three brothers, Lowell, Milford and Leigh Thomas and three sisters, Eleanor (Russell) Dyreson, Wanda (Chester) Pulvermacher and Enid (Bert) Roberts.
Gayle is survived by her husband, Derald of Dodgeville; three daughters, Sheryl (George) Viste of Sturgeon Bay; Julie (Terry) Broberg of Bonney Lake, WA; and Carla (Russ) Orson of Maple Lake, MN; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a sister, Betty Fingerson of Madison as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home in Dodgeville with Pastor Luke Rain officiating. Burial will be in the Arena Cemetery at 12:30 P.M. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday after 9:00 A.M.
