Garbage collection resumes in Madison Monday
A Madison garbage truck became stuck Thursday during the season's first big snowstorm.

Last week’s snowstorm will force sanitation workers to work a full day in Madison on Christmas Eve.

Recycling coordinator George Dreckmann said crews will be picking up garbage in Monday collection districts as well as picking up material not collected in Thursday and Friday’s districts due to the snow storm.

“Christmas Eve is normally a half day for our collection crews,”  Dreckmann said. “However, we are going to be staying on to complete collection in the Thursday and Friday areas.”

Residents who didn’t have their garbage picked up last week are asked to help dig out their carts out if they have been buried in snow. Material also needs to be out by 7 a.m. to ensure collection.

Large items will not be collected until further notice because of the snow. Residents are asked to hold large items until collection resumes, or bring them to drop off sites at 1501 W. Badger Road or 4602 Sycamore Ave. The sites are open from 7:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.

There will be no garbage collection in Madison on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

If garbage is normally collected on Tuesday, it will be collected on Wednesday, December 26th and Wednesday, January 2nd.

The Streets Division’s offices and drop-off sites will also be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
