Garage fire damages half of Janesville duplex
Officials estimate fire caused $75K in damage
JANESVILLE, Wis. — One half of a duplex in Janesville was damaged in a garage fire Saturday, Janesville fire officials said.
Janesville fire crews responded to a report of a fully-involved structure in an attached garage at 227 N. Marion Ave., according to a release.
When crews arrived they were told all occupants of the wood-frame duplex were out of the building, officials said.
The fire spread from the garage to the attic area above the residence, but crews were able to limit its spread to the other side of the duplex, according to the release. The fire, smoke and water damage to 227 N. Marion Ave. was extensive, and two residents were displaced.
Investigators said the fire started in the garage, but the cause remains under investigation.
Officials estimate the fire caused $50,000 in damage to the structure and $25,000 in damage to contents of the home, according to the release. There were no injuries reported.
