Funeral for Capt. Barr scheduled for Saturday
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — The funeral for fallen firefighter Cory Barr will be held Saturday at Sun Prairie High School, according to the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial.
Barr owned The Barr House and was the captain of the Sun Prairie Volunteer Fire Department. Abby Barr was the co-owner of The Barr House with her husband Cory.
“Please join the WSFM in sending our sincere condolences to family, friends, and the Sun Prairie Fire Department family of Captain Cory Barr,” the Facebook post said. Barr was a firefighter for 15 years.
“Your many years of service and dedication will not be forgotten. You have given the Ultimate Sacrifice. May you rest in peace,” the organization’s board wrote on its Facebook page.
Abby says Cory went to check on a gas leak near the business in downtown Sun Prairie on Tuesday night to figure out what was wrong as other firefighters evacuated people to safety. She said the explosion went off and Barr was pronounced dead after being airlifted to UW Hospital.
The Barrs have two daughters, and they are 3-year-old twins.
A private visitation will be held Friday night. On Saturday, the community is invited to join in remembering Barr at the Sun Prairie High School on Grove Street.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m to 10 a.m.The line for visitors will be closed prompltly at 10 a.m. prepare for the funeral procession.
A Medflight flyover and firefighter honors will be performed at the beginning of the precession.
After, there will be a service for family, friends and all emergency personnel at 11 a.m. For those who wish to view the ceremony the Honor Guard will be there to assist the public on where seating is available.
