Fredrick, Russell top UW depth chart
Local high school stars have solid camp
MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin head football coach Bret Bielema announced the Badgers depth chart for their regular season opener against Northern Iowa at Camp Randall Sept. 1.
Maryland transfer Danny O’Brien was named the Badgers starting quarterback Sunday, but two local players are also listed with the starters in the two-deep.
Madison Memorial wide receiver Jordan Fredrick is listed as a starter along with Jared Abbrederis and Kenzel Doe.
Placekicker Jack Russell of Waunakee is also listed as the Badgers primary field goal kicker, although Bielema said after practice Monday that the competition between Russell and sophomore Kyle French from Menomonee Falls is a work in progress and will likely go down to the final days of camp.
Other notable starters include Kyle Costigan at right guard and Rob Havenstein at right tackle who join center Travis Fredrick, left guard Ryan Groy and left tackle Ricky Wagner as the core of Wisconsin’s talented offensive line.
