Frank R. Leverentz

MADISON- Frank Roger Leverentz, age 92, passed away on June 7, 2014.

He was born on Feb. 5, 1922, to Frank O. and Bertha (Baumgartner) Leverentz, in Madison. He graduated from East High School in 1940. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Army in the South Pacific. He received the Purple Heart, 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Bronze Star.

Frank was an avid sportsman, enjoying both hunting and fishing and “the cabin in the woods” near Winter, Wisconsin. He was a member of the Dane County Conservation League and the Wisconsin Beagle Club. He was employed by the City of Madison as a Firefighter from 1947 to 1982, and also worked as a part-time employee for Brink’s, Inc., for many years. He was a member of Lakeview Lutheran Church, serving with the ushering teams and helping with the bloodmobile drives.

On December 29, 1951, he married Geraldine Melby at Bethel Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine; two daughters, Caryl Chmielewski of Milwaukee, and Linda (Keith) Kading of Mazomanie; six grandchildren, Bryan, Chantel, Bradley (Courtney) and Christina Chmielewski, and Tara (Jeff) Kading-Olson and Rachel Kading; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Emma Chmielewski; and one brother, Rodney (Francis) Leverentz, of Chicago, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his son, Paul; and a brother, Thomas.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at LAKEVIEW LUTHERAN CHURCH, 4001 Mandrake Road, with the Rev. Dean Kirst presiding. Visitation will be held from 12 noon until the time of service at the church on Thursday.
