Frances C. Bevan, 89, of Platteville died on Monday, November 3, 2014 at Orchard Manor, Lancaster. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at First English Lutheran Church, Platteville. Rev. Michael Short will officiate. Burial will be at Lima Union Cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the Melby Funeral Home & Crematory, Platteville, or from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. Frances was born on June 10, 1925 in Stitzer, Wisconsin, the daughter of Daniel and Frieda (Huell) Rice. She was united in marriage to Dale Bevan on October 24, 1944 at the Peace Lutheran Church, Platteville. He preceded her in death on January 24, 2012. Frances worked alongside her husband, Dale, on their farm in Lima Township. She was very active in organizations and a volunteer of her time and energy. She was a member of the Southwest Health Center Hospital Auxiliary, Rebekah Lodge, Quota Club and National Rural Electric Women’s Task Force. She was a 4-H foods leader, a superintendent at the Grant County Fair. For many years she worked elections and school board elections, where she on the certification board of school elections. She enjoyed playing in her card club, scrapbooking and cooking for family and friends. She always prepared food when she had visitors.

She is survived by three children, Bette (Everett) Hooks; Jerry (Brenda Fowell) Bevan; Linda (Bill) Chesterman; 16 grandchildren, Amy (Bret) Meissner, Allen Hooks, Annette Hooks, Andrew (Gina) Hooks, Aaron (Tisha) Hooks, Abbie (Randy) Ramel, Ashleigh (George, Jr.) Hrubes, Dion (Dawn) Bevan, Meredith (Phil) Wallace, Janet (Jason) Bries, Dustin Bevan, Jodi (Mark) Nosbisch, Jennifer (Bryan) Friederick, Jacquelin Kast, David (Coleen) Chesterman, John (Kari) Chesterman; 28 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald and Jeanette Bevan, Warren Noble, and Blanche Reuter. She was preceded in death also by her parents, great-granddaughter, Josie Friend, sister, Louise Kracke, brothers-in-law, Jack Bevan, LeRoy Reuter and Mick Hartshorn, and sisters-in-law, Maxine Noble and Betty Reuter.
