Four well-known podcasts set to host live shows in Madison
Plus new book celebrates Attic Angel's 130 years
The Barrymore Theatre is banking on live recordings of well-known podcasts to draw crowds in September and October. All four podcasts — Lore, Criminal, Savage Lovecast and The Dollop — are highly acclaimed with downloads in the millions. Other than that they have little in common and may not appeal to the same listeners or theatergoers. So here’s a venn diagram to help illustrate what a fan of one or more of these podcasts might also like about the others.
The ‘Attic Angels’ Among Us
Since 1889, when sisters Elva and Mary Bryant emerged from the attic of their Madison home with their arms full of the baby clothes they’d sewn for poor families, the Attic Angel Association has helped people in need throughout Dane County.
The Attic Angel Association, in celebration of its 130th anniversary this year, has published a thin volume — ”The One and Only Attic Angel: A Madison Original Since 1889″ — that highlights its many significant contributions to the health care of the community.
As the book outlines, “Attic Angels” raised money for the city’s first hospital, Madison General Hospital, which opened in 1903; established the Visiting Nurse Service in 1908, which continues to this day as SSM Health at Home; ran a weekly children’s clinic for 34 years starting in 1916; opened the city’s first non-governmental nursing home in 1953; built a south-side child care center for low-income families in 1969; opened the city’s first independent living center for seniors on Segoe Road in 1975; and helped launch Sharing Active Independent Lives, or SAIL, in 2005 for seniors wishing to remain in their homes.
