Former Packers, Badgers surprise patients at Madison VA hospital
MADISON, Wis. — Some former Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers surprised patients at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison Thursday, serving lunch and visiting with veterans as part of Salute to Service Month.
Packers alums Jared Abbrederis, Gary Ellerson and Bill Ferrario were among those who passed out food and spent time with the veterans.
For Ferrario, it was a personal mission.
“Just being able to go out and put a smile on everybody’s face, it’s an honor for us to do that and it’s something that playing for the Packers, no matter how long ago it was, gives us the opportunity to stay in the community and give back to the community,” he said. “As little as it feels for us, it may make somebody’s day, so it’s nice to be able to do it.”
Predictably, the surprise went over well and the patients were happy to cheer on the Pack.
