Former NASA shuttle commander to speak at UW-Platteville
PLATTEVILLE, Wis. — Former NASA space shuttle commander Eileen Collins will speak at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on March 28, university officials said.
In a news release, UW-Platteville officials said that Collins, the first woman to pilot and command space shuttle missions, will share her experience with students, faculty and the community and take audience questions.
Officials said that Collins received the most votes from the student body when selecting a distinguished lecturer.
Collins, who also served in the U.S. Air Force, logged over 872 hours in space before retiring in 2006, according to a NASA biography .
The speech is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in the Williams Fieldhouse. All classes at the university between 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. are canceled, officials said.
