Former Mayville teacher charged with sexual assault
A former Mayville High School teacher has posted bond after appearing in court on charges that she had a sexual relationship with a former student.
Shannon Cardinal, 43, is accused of sexual assault and child enticement. She is charged with 12 felonies: six counts of sex assault of student by school staff and six counts of child enticement-sexual contact. If convicted on all charges, she could serve 186 years in prison.
Cardinal and the former student, who was 17 at the time, allegedly had contact on several occasions.
Cardinal was released from jail on Friday after posting a $5,000 cash bond following her initial appearance in Fond du Lac County Court.
Her bail conditions prevent Cardinal from contacting her alleged victim, or having contact with any men under age 18 except for relatives. She is not allowed to work in any capacity with children and cannot leave the state of Wisconsin, according to court records.
Cardinal will return to court for a preliminary hearing on June 1.
