MADISON, Wis. — A former Madison high school teacher accused of videotaping students in their hotel rooms was sentenced Friday in federal court to 12 years in federal prison.

In August, David Kruchten pled guilty to two federal charges of traveling across state lines to engage in illicit sexual conduct with a minor and transportation of a minor with intent to produce child pornography.

Kruchten was accused of recording undressed students during field trips in Wisconsin and Minnesota while working as a teacher at Madison East High School in 2019. The recordings happened during trips to Wisconsin Dells, Lake Geneva, and Minneapolis.

Students reported finding the cameras inside air fresheners in their hotel rooms in Minneapolis. Kruchten resigned from East High School in February 2020.
