Former Badgers cornerback, twin brother formally charged
Police: Men robbed for money to buy heroin
MADISON, Wis. — A former Badgers football player and his twin brother were formally charged in a string of armed robberies Tuesday.
Jack Ikegwuonu, 28, and his brother William Ikegwuonu both entered not guilty pleas for misdemeanor theft charges.
Police caught the twins last Wednesday after an armed robbery at Klinke Cleaners on the west side, but they are also suspects in four other thefts.
Police said the SUV was the suspected getaway vehicle in a string of robberies, so officers obtained a warrant and placed a GPS device on the SUV just before the Klinke Cleaners robbery.
Officers tracked the SUV as it drove toward downtown Madison after the robbery, police said.
Police said the twins were using money from the robberies to buy heroin.
They will be back in court Dec. 9.
Jack Ikegwuonu played at Madison Memorial before becoming a Badger. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2008, was waived because of a knee injury and only played one game in the NFL.
