Football fans flood Madison for Badger, Wolverine matchup
MADISON, Wis. — The pivotal match between the Badgers and the Michigan Wolverines brought tens of thousands of people into town as well as a boost to Madison’s economy.
Hundreds of eager Badger fans braved the snow and the cold to see ESPN’S College Game Day preshow at Bascom Hill, some getting there before the sunrise.
“I think we’re just dedicated fans. You gotta get here at one in the morning. You gotta be reppin’ the Badgers,” one fan said.
It’s been a historic season. Heading into the game against Michigan, the Badgers were 10-0 for the first time in school history.
The big game is drawing big crowds to town. While more than 80,000 fans filled Camp Randall for the game, thousands of others were helping to boost Madison’s economy.
Annemarie Matri, Owner of Bloom Bake Shop on Monroe Street, said her restaurant was more packed than usual on game day.
“Gamy day is upper exciting being near the stadium. I go to bed like it’s Christmas, like I can’t wait for the craziness,” she said.
