Floyd Oscar Ritchie

Floyd Oscar Ritchie, age 89, went to be with the Lord on the early hours of Thursday, February 23, 2017. He passed away peacefully, allowing his family to be present at the opening of the gates of heaven to greet him. He had been fighting a short battle with Pancreatic Cancer.

Floyd was born on March 15, 1927 (one of 9 children) to Alfred and Lucy Ritchie, in Crawford County. He went to school in Haney Ridge, and then worked on his uncle’s farm until he was 23, while also working for the Crawford County Farm Bureau. He was drafted into the Army and served in the 9th Infantry Regiment. He then served in the National Guard for 10 years, before his discharge as a Master Sargent.

He married Ruby Roth in a double wedding ceremony with her sister. They were married for 63 years before her death in 2013. After moving to Madison, he went to work for the University of Wisconsin Agriculture Poultry Department, and then for the Dane County Parks Department, which he retired from. He enjoyed camping, traveling, playing cards, and gardening.

Floyd is survived by his 3 children, Diane (Jerry) Schutz of Waunakee, Robin (Paul) Wipperfurth of Poynette, and Kevin (Sheroll) Ritchie of Wheaton, IL. Floyd had 7 grandchildren, Talia and Blake Schutz, Renee (Jon) Kotek, Vic (Kaia) Wipperfurth, Derek (Stephanie) Wipperfurth, Faith (James) Waterman, and Connor Ritchie. He is also survived by his 5 Great-Grandsons, Croix and Dax Wipperfurth, Owen and Wyatt Wipperfurth, and Frank Kotek. He is further survived by a sister Eileen Kuehni, and brothers Virgil and Lavon Ritchie. He is preceded in death by his wife Ruby, his parents, brothers James, Alvin, Royal, Ronald, and sister Iliff.
