Florida man charged with installing skimmers at Madison gas stations
MADISON, Wis. — A Florida man was charged Thursday with installing skimmers at Madison gas stations, according to a release.
Alejandro Arias-Perez, 29, of Miami, was charged with two counts of possessing device-making equipment with the intent to defraud, officials said.
Arias-Perez was originally charged with the offenses in a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Madison on April 27, according to the release.
The complaint alleges that Arias-Perez installed a gas pump skimmer at two gas stations in Madison to fraudulently obtain credit card numbers from customers at the gas stations. The two gas stations were on East Washington Avenue and South Park Street.
Arias-Perez was arrested in Miami and made an initial appearance in federal court there on April 28, according to the release. He remains in federal custody and will be transferred to the Western District of Wisconsin.
If convicted, Arias-Perez faces up to 20 years in federal prison on each count.
