MADISON, Wis. — Flags across Wisconsin will be flown at half-staff on Saturday in memory of firefighters who have died in the line of duty after an order from Gov. Tony Evers.

Saturday, October 1 marks Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day. To mark the day, Wisconsin Fire & EMS Memorial Inc. will hold a Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession at the Wisconsin State Firefighters Memorial Park in Wisconsin Rapids.

“This day is an important one to many as they honor their loved ones, colleagues, and friends with the Final Alarm Ceremony and Silent Procession, and the state of Wisconsin joins them in their mourning as we remember their fallen heroes,” Gov. Evers said in a statement announcing the flag order. “They will never be forgotten.”

In addition to flags being lowered on October 1, the governor’s order also calls for flags to be lowered on Saturday, October 15 in honor of Wisconsin Firefighters Memorial Day during Fire Prevent Week. The flag lowering during that week is required by state law.
