Five Madison businesses win Good Food Awards

At Friday’s Good Food Awards in San Francisco, five Madison businesses were among the 219 total winners at the 2020 Good Food Awards in San Francisco.

The Good Food Foundation highlights companies that have responsible practices and superior taste. The award signifies social and environmental responsibility along with craftsmanship and flavor, according to its website.

“The Good Food Awards recognizes that truly good food — the kind that brings people together and builds strong, healthy communities — contains all of these ingredients,” its website says.

There are more than 2,000 entries from all 50 states each year for the Good Food Awards.

This year JBC Coffee Roasters, Madison Chocolate Co., The Quince & Apple Co., The Modern Candy Co. and Underground Meats were given awards for their products.

JBC Coffee Roasters won for its Janson Geisha Lot #109, which is a direct-trade coffee grown in Volcan, Panama at the Janson Farm. JBC has won numerous times for its coffee.

“We are honored to win this prestigious award that recognizes both high quality and sustainability,” JBC founder Michael Johnson says.

Madison Chocolate Co.’s Passion Fruit Caramel won this year.

The Quince and Apple Co. won two awards this year — one for its Tart Cherry Grenadine and the other for its Tiki Pineapple Simple Syrup. The Quince and Apple Co. also owns The Modern Candy Co., which won for the Raspberry Pate de Fruit.

Underground Meats also was a winner this year for its Calabrian 3 Ways Salami.
