Fitchburg police arrest man in connection with hit-and-run involving 7-year-old girl
FITCHBURG, Wis. — Fitchburg police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run crash from Sunday.
A news release said a detective with the police department found the suspect’s vehicle abandoned in a parking lot Monday more than one mile away from the crash scene. Investigators collected other evidence and identified the driver who was allegedly involved.
Alexander Hernandez Gutierrez, 18, was was taken into custody without incident Wednesday and booked into the Dane County Jail for a probation violation. Officials said a charge of felony hit-and-run causing injury and citations for operating after revocation, operating without insurance and failure to notify police of an accident will likely be sent to the Dane County District Attorney’s Office by the end of the week.
The crash happened on the 2100 block of High Ridge Trail at around 8 p.m. Sunday. Officials said a 7-year-old girl was riding her bike when she was hit by a car. The victim has since been released from the hospital and is recovering from her injuries.
Fitchburg police originally stated the hit-and-run victim was a 6-year-old girl. The department has since issued a clarification stating the victim is 7. This story has been updated to reflect the correction.
