Fitchburg identifies officers involved in Sunday shooting

Police: Officers acted appropriately in shooting

A Town of Madison police officer and a Fitchburg police officer have been identified in an officer involved shooting on Fish Hatchery Road early Sunday morning.

Both agencies also released a joint statement Friday saying the two officers “acted according to their training and shot at the suspect in an effort to prevent injury or death to themselves or others.”

Police said both town of Madison and Fitchburg police officers were sent to Fish Hatchery Road outside Club Five early Sunday morning after calls from citizens about a man displaying a handgun, threatening people attempting to rob others at gunpoint.

When they got there, Town of Madison police officer Jonathan Weaver, 31, and Fitchburg police officer Lucas Hale, 26, shot Altreo Scott, 18,according to the release. Scott suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result of the shooting, according to the release.

Weaver has worked for the Town of Madison for four years, after serving as a deputy for the Dane County Sheriff’s office for three years before that. Hale has worked for Fitchburg police for three years.

The Department of Justice-Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) was called to investigate the police-involved shooting at the request of the Town of Madison police department.

Both Fitchburg and Town of Madison expect DCI will present their investigation to the Dane County district attorney.
