Officials said in a news conference Monday that the recent homicide in Fitchburg was not believed to be a random act, and that there is no immediate threat to the public.

Fitchburg police said an extensive autopsy was recently completed, but, despite questions from reporters and a release from the Verona School District announcing a student death, officials were unable to provide information about the victim’s identity at this time.

No arrests have been made yet, and there are no suspect leads at the moment.

Investigators with Fitchburg police have been working the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, Verona Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Officials said public safety is a paramount concern for the city and there is “no specific info that there is an immediate threat to anyone in the community.”

Police will be providing additional patrols in the Tower Hill neighborhood, and investigative personnel will remain in the neighborhood until late afternoon or early evening Monday.
