MADISON, Wis. — One person was killed Friday morning after being hit by a semi-truck while walking on the interstate, according to Wisconsin State Patrol officials.

Authorities said they were first notified of a crash with injuries on I-39/90/94 just north of the interchange with Highway 151 shortly before 4 a.m.

When they responded to the scene, troopers said they found a pedestrian dead. The victim was identified as a 42-year-old Sun Prairie man.

An initial investigation revealed the victim had been walking in the southbound lanes of the interstate for an unknown reason when they were hit by a semi. Officials said the semi truck driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.

All southbound lanes of the interstate at the crash site were cleared shortly before 9 a.m. Friday.

Madison emergency medical services and firefighters, Madison police, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office helped with the response.
