Firefighters rescue Madison resident from smoke-filled apartment
MADISON, Wis. — Firefighters discovered and rescued an unresponsive occupant from a smoke-filled apartment early on Wednesday morning, according to a report.
Ladder Co. 8 responded to an apartment building on the 700 block of Rethke Ave around 4:46 a.m. because the apartment’s alarm was sounding.
A security officer reported finding finding heavy smoke in one of the apartments, the report said. He crawled inside the apartment and found the resident unresponsive, who he then pulled into the hallway.
Upon arrival, a firefighter brought the unresponsive occupant downstairs to be treated by paramedics, who was then taken to a local hospital. The identity of the occupant is not known at this time.
Once the occupant was brought to safety, firefighters discovered fire and burned food on the stove, as well as fire extending into the overhead cabinets. The crew extinguished the fires and searched the apartment again, finding no additional victims or occupants.
The extent of the damage caused by the fire is unknown at this time.
