Firefighters investigating cause of McFarland fire
Damage estimates unknown
McFARLAND, Wis. — Fire officials are still investigating a fire that occurred at an industrial building in McFarland Saturday night, McFarland fire Chief Chris Dennis said.
Crews were called to a large fire on the roof of Midwest Refrigerated Services at 4704 Terminal Drive just after 8:40 p.m., Dennis said in a news release.
Dennis said the fire was mostly contained by 9:15 p.m., but crews remained at the scene until 1 a.m. Sunday ventilating the building and making sure the fire was extinguished. The fire was contained to an 8,000-square-foot area of the roof and did not extend into the building.
The building was unoccupied at the time of the fire, and no one was injured, Dennis said. The facility was able to resume normal operations Sunday morning.
Dennis said in addition to the McFarland Fire Department, the Cambridge, Cottage Grove, Fitchburg, Madison, Maple Bluff, Monona and Stoughton fire departments sent crews to the scene. Oregon firefighters staffed the McFarland station during the fire in case of additional calls.
Dennis said officials did not have a damage estimate as of Sunday afternoon.
