Fire destroys barn, causes $140K in damage, officials say
A barn containing hay and straw caught fire Saturday afternoon in the town of Cross Plains, and collapsed despite the firefighting efforts of seven area departments.
In a news release, the Dane County Sheriff’s Office said deputies, along with firefighters from Cross Plains, Madison, Mazomanie, Middleton, Arena, Verona and Waunakee, responded to the blaze at 3822 Garfoot Road around 4:52 p.m.
Deputies said no people or animals were hurt in the fire, but the barn was considered a total loss with estimated damages of more than $140,000.
Officials said the fire is not considered to be suspicious.
