Fennimore wrestling rolls past competition

The Fennimore wrestling team made history in 2015. The Golden Eagles qualified for team state wrestling for the first time ever. They did so while practicing in Fennimore’s Rainbow Palace roller skating rink.

The Rainbow Palace is home to a nachos cart, video games, and an assortment of sodas and candies.. According to junior Riley Lull, the Golden Eagles use the sight of sweets as motivation.

“You look over your shoulder at the candy and drinks and think ‘ah, I’ve got to make weight this week!'”

Using that motivation, as well as a lot of hard work, Fennimore heads to state ready to make a statement. Senior Brock Steldt is excited to take the mats at the UW Fieldhouse.

“We’re going to be ready to go and show every one what Fennimore wrestling is made of.”

After spending a long season staring at snacks, Freshman Alston Nutter says the Golden Eagles are hungry to make even more history at state.

“It’d be even cooler if we take it home- win it. That’d be a great feeling.”

Fennimore wrestles Coleman in the division three semifinals Saturday at 10 a.m. at the UW Fieldhouse.
