Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex faces sanctions
MILWAUKEE — The Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex is facing federal sanctions after being cited for failing to protect patients from each other.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued four citations against the Mental Health Complex on Feb. 27. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel obtained a report on the violations Wednesday.
The report states problems at the county facility include inadequate follow-up after reports of patients beating other patients, two reports of rape, and a patient ramming others with his wheelchair. It also says staff used physical restraints and drugs on patients in a long-term care unit but didn’t report that to regulators. The unit is slated for closure.
The citations carry the threat of a loss of federal funding. However, regulators have accepted the county’s improvement plan.
