Fashion show aims to make prom more affordable
VERONA, Wis. — It may not be prom season quite yet, but some local students are modeling formal attire to raise money to make the big dance more affordable.
Verona High School held the Fierce Fashion Fundraiser Sunday afternoon, letting students strut their stuff while helping their peers.
Vendors from the Madison area donated dresses and suits for the teens to model on the runway, and local beauty schools volunteered their time to do hair and makeup.
“It’s really important that we raise money in this event so that some students who can’t afford a dress or to buy tickets for prom get to go. Prom is a tradition that everyone should be able to go to,” Verona High School student Megan Liu said.
The money raised through ticket sales to the event, as well as a bake sale and silent auction, will go toward decreasing ticket prices and offsetting other costs to make the event more accessible for lower-income students and those in need.
