Family physician offers up ways to stay active, indoors, during the winter
MADISON, Wis. — It’s the official start of Winter, a season where darker days and colder temperatures often stifle the motivation to be physical. For many, the season of COVID-19 has done the same, but SSM Health Physician Adam Buhalog says you’ve got to get moving, and there are ways around the challenges of the seasons.
“There’s a lot more online activities offered nowadays than ever before. YouTube certainly has some different dance and exercise channels that can be explored. There’s also a variety of online virtual classes, especially targeted towards children that can still be fun and inclusive, and allow them to participate in groups while being active even from home,” said Buhalog.
For those willing to be outdoors, Buhalog says sledding, snow-shoeing, ice-skating, and hiking are a few great options of winter activities. He also suggests maintaining a well balanced diet, and keeping healthy snacks on hand, and says that the combination of good food and good movement during the winter months will keep your family happier, stronger, and healthier.
