Family escapes house fire on east side
Blaze causes $50,000 damage to home
MADISON, Wis. — A blaze Sunday night caused major damage to a home on Madison’s east side, but a family of five and all their pets managed to get out safely, according to the Madison fire department.
Firefighters were called to the scene in the 4000 block of Steinies Drive around 8:15 p.m. Sunday.
When crews got to the scene, they saw light smoke coming from the eaves of the home, but the occupants were outside.
Firefighters went to the basement, where they found intense heat and thick, black smoke. Crews knocked down the fire in less than 10 minutes.
Fire officials said there were no injuries. They said the family, and all their pets, a dog, two cats and a pet rat, all got out safely.
Officials estimate damage to the home at $50,000.
